Some Projects of Mine

As a Grad student, I consider myself a work in progress. Building a body of work is ongoing. However, I hope these pieces demonstrate my interests, and fields of study while providing a look into the symbiotic relationship between Public Relations, Cinema Studies, and Journalism.

Blogging

A Blog is a fun way to engage with an audience and share your personality and unique point of view. Here is one I designed and maintained for a few weeks as part of one of my classes. I was able to explore some of the nuances of blogging while focusing on some of the issues that I care about.

Indonesian Exploitation Film

A video essay can be a unique way to tell a story. Here as part of a collaborative team, I attempt to tell the story of Indonesia's role in keeping a niche yet beloved genre of film alive.

Crisis Communications

Identifying and knowing how to navigate a crisis is invaluable. I was instructed to identify a crisis within a company and analyze the response. In this presentation, I discuss Lucasfilm and the brand crisis it faced with its billion-dollar intellectual property Star Wars. I chose this both for my personal interest in the company, and the unique way this demonstrated that no brand is too big to fail.

Narrative Storytelling

Learning how to shoot and then edit video footage using Adobe Premiere is a skill I enjoy honing and hope to continue to utilize. This was a fun narrative project which simultaneously shows my editing skills while being a love letter to my dog Tippa.

Fact or Fiction

Learning to identify both misinformation and disinformation in the media is invaluable. This presentation was part of a class designed to examine the ways in which the media can tell a story by stretching or sometimes twisting the truth. Once again I was able to choose an issue within the film and entertainment industry combining both of my areas of study while focusing on brand and overall integrity.

News Release
and
Media Pitch

In order to tell a good story, you've got to get someone to listen! Learning to write a targeted news release and media pitch are some of the most important skills in the PR toolbox. Here I focused on a Christmas release for one of the titles at Portlands own DarkHorseComics.

Infographics and Non-Profit Appeals

Learning to create Infographics and appeal to non-profit organizations is a skill that is useful regardless of the industry I end up in. This was an assignment where I created both an infographic and a call-to-action appeal focusing on the local Eugene charity "Luvable" which specializes in Pitbull rescue and advocacy... a cause I believe in deeply.

Academic Writing

Academic writing and persuasive writing are not one and the same. Understanding the difference and when to allow them to overlap has been a key part of my education. Here is an example of an academic essay on the role of the documentary Nanook of the North as it pertains to the representation of indigenous peoples.
